But I Find No Slavation in Any of Them

"Those who govern their thoughts and actions solely by the principles of liberalism or conservatism or intellectualism cannot be expected to agree with all of the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ. As for me, I find some wisdom in liberalism, some wisdom in conservatism, and much truth in intellectualism—but I find no salvation in any of them." -D. H. Oaks of the 12 Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Perhaps I misunderstand a major world religion by saying this, but I'm finding that the power and beauty of Buddhism is not in its central tenet of being detached from the world and thus free but in its non-reaction to the world as it transpires around it. It is in the detachment of those parts of ourselves that react—not from those that feel or think.
"Well-makers lead the water (wherever they like); fletchers bend the arrow; carpenters shape the log of wood; wise people fashion themselves." Buddhism; Dhammapada, verse 80.

“If you want to awaken all of humanity, then awaken all of yourself, if you want to eliminate the suffering in the world, then eliminate all that is dark and negative in yourself. Truly, the greatest gift you have to give is that of your own self-transformation.” – Taoism; Lao Tzu (Founder of Taoism).
"Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty,
and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city." ESV  ~ Judaism & Christianity; Proverbs 16:32
